Nermin Eroğlu (70) became a source of inspiration for all cancer warriors by winning her battle against cancer.

Another success story has emerged from the women of Altındağ. This time, the heroine of the story is a cancer warrior who defeated stomach cancer… Nermin Eroğlu, a member of the Altındağ Municipality Hüseyin Gazi Women’s Education and Culture Center, participated in cancer screenings conducted at the center. Although she had no discomfort or complaints, Eroğlu was diagnosed with stomach cancer during these screenings. Shocked by the diagnosis, she never lost her energy for life or her hope. Thanks to the treatments she received and the support of her fellow members at the center, Nermin Eroğlu succeeded in overcoming cancer and is now an inspiration to all cancer warriors.

“I SUCCEEDED THANKS TO THE CANCER SCREENING AT THE CENTER”

Stating that receiving a cancer diagnosis was deeply shocking for her, Eroğlu described the process as follows:

“I am an active member of the Hüseyin Gazi Women’s Education and Culture Center. I attend courses and events here. Our center manager told us that free cancer screenings would be conducted and encouraged me to participate. Since I felt fine and had no complaints, I initially thought it was unnecessary and declined. But when my friends encouraged me, I decided to join the screening…

Our doctors persistently called me. After that, I went to the hospital. That was when I learned about my illness. I was very upset and shocked. Even before the biopsy results came out, I underwent surgery. My stomach was removed, and since the cancer had spread to my pancreas, I received chemotherapy for seven months. My treatment was successful. Later, when the disease recurred, I underwent radiation therapy. Thankfully, that worked as well. Now I feel very energetic and healthy, and I go for check-ups every six months. I succeeded, and I hope everyone can succeed like I did.”

Eroğlu emphasized that the most significant factor in overcoming her illness was early diagnosis, which was made possible by the cancer screening at the Hüseyin Gazi Women’s Education and Culture Center:

“The early diagnosis of my illness was truly a blessing for me… I sincerely thank Altındağ Municipality and our Mayor, Veysel Tiryaki. If these centers did not exist, if we had not been given these opportunities, if I had not participated in that screening, I would not have known about my illness and perhaps it would have been too late. I always pray for them—may God bless them. I believe Veysel Tiryaki is a great chance for the people of Altındağ. As women of Altındağ, we will always support our Mayor.”

She also stated that she overcame the difficult post-surgery period thanks to the courses at the center and the support of her friends:

“I can never forget the support my friends at the center gave me during this process.”

“NO OTHER CITY HAS SUCH MUNICIPAL SERVICES”

Highlighting that she now pays much more attention to her quality of life after cancer, Eroğlu described her life after recovery:

“I am very careful to exercise every day. I never neglect sports. I take a walk every morning. I also attend the fitness course at the Hüseyin Gazi Women’s Education and Culture Center, and I am very pleased. My life now revolves around sports… It helps me relax psychologically.

I also participate in trips organized by our municipality. I joined the Kastamonu trip, and it was wonderful. If I had gone on my own, I would not have been able to visit so many historical places. I truly appreciate the services of Altındağ Municipality. They care about our lives and health even more than we do. May God bless everyone involved. No other city in Türkiye offers such municipal services.

I recommend that all women of Altındağ become members of the Women’s Education and Culture Centers and participate in the events, health screenings, trips, and courses organized there.”

“WE HAVE PROVIDED FREE CANCER SCREENINGS TO THOUSANDS OF RESIDENTS”
