Mehmet Akif Ersoy Evi

Located in the Altındağ district of Ankara, this is the place where Mehmet Akif Ersoy resided during the Turkish War of Independence and where he wrote numerous poems, including the Turkish National Anthem. It lies within the boundaries of Hacettepe University's Central Campus. Originally the Taceddin Dervish Lodge, this two-story wooden structure was allocated to Mehmet Akif Ersoy by the Taceddin Sheikh during the war years. In 1949, the building was converted into a museum-house by a decision of the city council, but remained in a dilapidated state for many years. It was restored in 1982 and opened to visitors in 1984. Mehmet Akif Ersoy's pocket watch, glasses, prayer beads, and rifle are displayed in the museum. Across from the house, a bust of Mehmet Akif, erected in 2003, and an inscription containing the first two stanzas of the National Anthem are noteworthy.
