Built between 1522 and 1523 by Damat Rüstem Pasha, the husband of Mihrimah Sultan, this caravanserai is located in the At Pazarı neighborhood of Ulus. It features classical Ottoman architecture and is built on a rectangular plan. With its sturdy Khorasan walls, the caravanserai, due to its preservation-friendly structure, was used as a mohair warehouse for a long time. Situated on the Silk Road during the Ottoman Empire, Çengelhan became a trade center, a stopping point for Anatolian caravans. Until its expropriation in 1991, its owner was Raife Karacabeyoğlu Öngen, a descendant of Karacapaşa, the Beylerbey of Anatolia. Çengelhan was also used as a food supply warehouse by approximately 20 tenants, including prominent Ankara families such as the Kınacı and Bulgurlu families. Designated as a "Historical Monument Requiring Protection" by the High Council of Monuments in the 1980s, Çengelhan was leased and restored by Koç Holding in 2005.
